Simon graduated from Manchester University School of Architecture, qualifying as an architect in 1981.
He worked in UK for ten years specialising in hospital and commercial projects, working on hospitals throughout the north of UK as well as being selected to advise the NHS on consultancy to the Iranian Health Service in adapting standards for the WHO, working in London and Teheran.
During this time he also taught at Manchester University.
Following this he moved to Germany to work with BDP Rohling on healthcare and commercial projects in the former East Germany and Czech Republic in rebuilding after 1989.
In 1999 he moved to Poland to run the office of HOK working on commercial projects before helping to set up Callison Architects’ European office in Amsterdam. Here he was responsible for Harrods White Room in London and Wola Shopping Centre in Warsaw.
Simon set up 4105.eu in 2005 with Agnieszka and worked on projects throughout Europe, mainly in the commercial retail sector before returning to healthcare projects. He was also project director and project manager for Apple’s new offices in Warsaw.
In 2019 they opened 4105 Architects with a new office in Lisbon working on healthcare, residential and specialist ecological houses.
Agnieszka graduated from Warsaw Polytechnic School of Architecture, qualifying as an architect in 2004. During her studies she took part in the exchange program with the University of Detroit Mercy, travelling extensively in the USA. She recently obtained a Portuguese architectural licence.
Following university she worked with Denton Corker Marshall in Warsaw on commercial projects before gaining experience with HOK as site architect on the first shopping mall in Poland.
After this she was asked to be the site architect for Erick van Egeraat’s new Dutch embassy and residence in Warsaw before moving to the head office in Rotterdam to work on office and school projects. She then worked for EEA in Moscow and Budapest on large commercial projects before returning to Warsaw to set up 4105.eu.
Agnieszka specialises in medical planning, providing the expertise on the 1000-bed hospital in Toruń (Poland) for which she was also the architect of record / author. She also advises other architectural practices on this speciality.
She runs the graphics studio in the office, working on projects from full wayfinding/environmental graphics for hospitals and museums to logos and branding.
She is currently researching the use of natural construction materials in housing, including prefabrication and use of eco-technologies for heating, ventilation and cooling.
